A letter to Ramadan 2025

A lit ornate lantern with a crescent top glows warmly next to a plate of dates. Blurred city lights create a serene evening backdrop.

Another year has gone by with you visiting us so quickly. If you ask me, I find it quite fascinating that you are able to evoke feelings of deep joy, sadness, grief, and peace all at the same time. Many of us find ourselves wrapped in immense happiness as you first make yourself at home. However, that happiness quickly shifts to grief as you begin to pack your bags for your departure. Time truly is a thief, and I always feel as though I am chasing you, begging you to stay. I never won the fight against time but I will continue to try and try.

Until we meet again, Ramadan.

Does any of this resonate with you? If so, know that transitioning out of a month-long spiritual routine can bring up a wide range of feelings. For some, there's excitement as they fall back into old routines (I'm looking at you, morning coffee). On the other hand, this transition can trigger feelings of isolation as the month of Ramadan may have provided a unique sense of purpose.

I have compiled a short list of steps you can take to ease this shift in your life. I hope it helps.

  • Recognize that you are allowed to feel all the feelings. Grief is okay. Joy is also okay. Give yourself grace as you experience your emotions.

  • Maintain the friendships you made with other community members. Ramadan might be over, but those connections do not have to end!

  • Reflect on the routines that felt comforting and identify where you can make adjustments to include them into your daily life.

  • Continue to show up in spaces that provided a sense of purpose. Ramadan is gone but those places remain!

  • Lean into those around you who are experiencing similar feelings- there is power in unity.

  • Connect with organizations that aim to give back to surrounding communities.

  • Set goals for Ramadan 2026, it's never too early to start planning!

  • Seek professional help if this transition feels too heavy. We would be honored to hold space for your journey here at The Couch Therapy

With warmth,

Deema
